TITLE: AVOIDABLE PITFALLS IN CHOOSING A MARRIAGE PARTNER

DATE: WEDNESDAY MARCH 24, 2021

TEXT: Ephesians 5:15-17

KEY VERSE: 1 Peter 4:2 ‘That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.’

The world has its style and we see it play out in many ways when they are seeking marriage partners. But you that is a child of God must not emulate that. These things take many shapes and forms. Some marriages come by immorality. Get the man tricked; he falls and takes you home. You marry in the filthiness of sin. Some negotiate immorality saying, “Give me; otherwise, how do I know you can perform.” These days, much lies are being told to get married. Some borrow house, car or garment to lure the opposite sex. The woman is swept off her feet seeing a great husband in the making. Some marriages are based on the choice of parents. My mother, my father, or my elder sister chose for me. Or by cultural barrier, prohibiting to marry from certain tribes. God can only save those he can save even when they repent and come to Jesus because much damage has already been done. In some other cases, they grow up in the church quite all right, but they are not committed Christians. They were born into the church and grew up there but they live in violation of God’s commandment. They don’t wait for God in marriage. They seek publicity to cause people to know they are there. They don’t believe God can trace them where they are and reach them to bless them. They do boyfriend and girlfriend business. They move closer to the person they are interested in and create the scene of Christian life but God is not in it. Their ways are carnal.

They circumvent the marriage committee guidelines. They settle with themselves and take their names to the marriage committee with fake revelation of God’s will for them. They are in the church but shuttling between church and the world. When asked if they have been communicating they lie – never! (adding sin to sin). Some run away from medical tests because they are afraid that the result may not show compatibility. Come and see the bride’s dressing on the wedding day; come and see dancing; everything is worldly! They do all these to their hurt. These people go off this way because heaven has left the people in the church. But thank God, there are still some remnants. Those whose mouth has not kissed Baal. Those ready for heaven. Brother, sister, know that marriage plays a great role in heaven’s business.

Thought for the day: Do not allow men to decide your future for you. Your life is in the hands of God.

Song for the day: My life time, I will give God my life time…

Bible reading for the day: Joshua 11-13; Luke 4:1-32
