TITLE: MARRIAGE ILLUSTRATES CHRIST’S UNION WITH THE CHURCH

TEXT: EPHESIANS 5: 25, 28, 32

KEY VERSE: Ephesians 5:32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ
and the church.

The Holy Spirit through the inspired writer uses marriage as a figure of the union between Christ and the Church. If our heavenly Father, Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour, and the Holy Spirit honour marriage, then we should follow marriage and hold it honourably. Marriage illustrates Christ’s union with the Church. Marriage is a lovely union as there is love between Christ and the Church. Marriage is a service union, of coming together where the man serves the woman, the woman serves the man. Jesus is serving us. See the great good He does for us in His service. “I am among you as he that serves.” And we are serving Him as our Master and Lord.

He provides for us our needs, we serve Him. So, it is a union illustrating that a husband loves the wife, the wife loves the husband. Husband serve the wife, provides for the wife, and the wife serves the husband, honours the husband. It illustrates the relationship between Christ and the Church. It is a relationship of mutual benefit. Everybody gains from the union. We gain from our relationship with Christ, so marriage is a thing that illustrates the relationship between Christ and the church. The Holy Spirit used it to open our eyes to the relationship between Christ and the church.

It is an eternal union because we are told that marriage is for life. Jesus and the believers joined together and live for eternity because Jesus does not die, therefore and the believers who will resurrect will also not die, the union is forever. Just as the husband and the wife are on earth, the union is throughout the days of their life until anyone dies between them. So marriage illustrates our relationship with Jesus, Take it, therefore, to be honourable and don’t touch it. Don’t break it. Don’t interrupt that marriage. It is a message to the world illustrating Christ’s relationship with the church.
