TITLE: THE COVETOUS HEART IS NEVER SATISFIED

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 20TH, 2021

TEXT: MARK 7:21-23 KJV
(21) For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders,
(22) Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness:
(23) All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.

KEY VERSE: 2 PETER 2:14 KJV
Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children:

What makes you want more and more and more? What makes you buy more and more even when you don’t need some of those things? What makes some people kill is because they want more. What makes some people blaspheme is because they covet what belongs to others.  Do not covet your neighbor’s wife. Do not covet your neighbor’s property. If you have this heart, you can never be satisfied with what you have. You will always be looking for more. Ecclesiastes 5:10 says,  “He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance with increase: this is also vanity.”

An evil heart can cause unbelief and make you to depart from the Living God. Today’s key verse says those with covetous heart are cursed children.  Can you see what covetousness can do? You desire everything that your brother has; everything your sister has should be your own, as if you are the only one that should have the best of everything in life. You are never satisfied with what is given to you. You are like Korah, Dathan and Abiram who were not satisfied with the office they were occupying and they coveted Aaron’s office. Moses asked them, “are you not satisfied with what God gave you, that you are also coveting the high priesthood?”

It is from the heart. Look at the heart of Absalom: Oh that I were the king! Oh that I could deputize for the King. Covetous man; never satisfied! I want the position just for the sake of it. Idolatry! That is why the Bible says they are cursed children.   Let your moderation be known by all, for the Lord is at hand. Let your moderation be in buying clothes. Be moderate, and exercise control over your appetite.

The Bible says in Proverbs 25:16, “Hast thou found honey? eat so much as is sufficient for thee, lest thou be filled therewith, and vomit it.” Learn to control yourself. Learn to be content with life, for we brought nothing into this world and we shall take nothing out.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Covetous people are under divine curse. Learn to be contented with what you have.
