TITLE: TIPS ON HOW TO LIVE ABOVE SIN

TEXT: Matthew 14:22-32

KEY VERSE: Romans 6:2 ‘God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?’

In today’s devotional text, we saw Jesus walking on water and doing what was humanly impossible to do. So it is with sin. It is generally believed among men, even among many churches, that it is humanly impossible to live above sin. But Jesus is telling you today that as He walked on water without sinking, you can live victoriously in this world as a Christian without sinning. The earth is likened to the sea covered with the waters of sin. As Jesus beckoned on Peter to come over and he, like Jesus, walked on water without sinking, you too can live in this world without sinning by the power of Jesus that is in you. But to be able to do this, we must learn something from what Peter did that enabled him to walk on water for some distance.

1. Peter Desired It. Peter desired it saying, “Lord, if You are the one…” Before he even made that request he would have admired his Lord walking on water and would have wished in his heart to do the same. That was a desire!

2. He Requested for It. Peter asked God, “Lord, if You are the one, invite me to come and walk on the water.” Peter made the request. There must be desire and there must be an asking.

3. Peter Believed. Peter believed that Jesus has the power to make him walk on water as He did. With a great faith, he jumped into the water.

4. Peter Practicalized It. Peter responded to it by jumping into the water to walk on it. He put “I believe I can do it” into practice.

Do you really desire to live without sin? Without that desire, all your efforts will fail. All the preachers are doing will fail. All availability of God’s power to help you will not work because there is no desire. You can take a horse to the river, but you cannot force it to drink the water if there is no desire. Therefore, the reason you are being defeated in sin is because you lack the desire not to sin. When you pray for holiness, you just do it for asking sake not because you have the desire to live holy. Even if you believe Jesus can save, do you actually want to be saved?

Thought for the day: You can live above sin if you earnestly desire it.

Song for the day: Lord I want to be like Jesus in my life…
