TITLE: YOU NEED THE POWER OF JESUS TO LIVE VICTORIOUSLY ABOVE SIN

DATE: SUNDAY FEBRUARY 28, 2021

TEXT: Matthew 14:22-32

KEY VERSE: John 8:11 ‘She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.’

In today’s devotional text, the disciples of Jesus were in a ship on the sea in the night and there was great wind shaking the ship. They were struggling with it and suddenly they saw a figure on the sea walking freely to them. They were afraid because you and I know that it is not a common thing that a man should walk on top of water as one walking on the land. They thought in their mind that this must be a spirit. They were afraid it was coming to attack them. They probably thought it was even the spirit that stirred the wind against them. But Jesus answered, “Don’t be afraid, it is I.” Jesus demonstrated that He was not a man, and that He has the power to do what human beings in the world cannot do.

The earth is likened to the sea covered with the waters of sin. The boisterous wind refers to satanic operations and powers shaking the earth. By the nature of water, no one can walk on it; this will require the display of supernatural power. Similarly, no one can live victoriously over sin in the world except it be by supernatural power. You can see that as Jesus walked on top of the waters which no man on earth can do, He showed that He came from above to display supernatural power over the earth. He walked on the sea, the sea representing the sins that have covered everywhere. Jesus walked on the sea despite the continuous rising and falling waves of the sea. It rose and fell with Jesus on top of it. Hallelujah! You are learning a new thing that will give you a new perspective to the power of Jesus over sin. Despite the heavy wind, the shaking of the waters rising up to a great heap and coming down flat, Jesus walked calmly and peacefully on top of it. Despite all the waves of sin on earth; the nature of sin on the earth; the characteristics of sin; the demonic manipulation of sin on earth; Jesus is above it. Hallelujah! Jesus said, “The prince of this world cometh and findeth nothing in Me.” No sin was in Jesus. He was never swallowed up by the water. What a man could not do, He came from above to do. Jesus released power to the woman caught in adultery when he said, “Go, and sin no more.” May you receive this same power to overcome sin in Jesus Name.

Thought for the day: You need Jesus to overcome the power of sin and Satan.
